During an assignment, travel nurses are provided with many of the same benefits given to permanent hospital staff members. Specific benefits may vary by employer, but the benefits you can expect are generally:

  • Free local housing provided by the recruiting company
  • Health insurance, including dental and vision coverage
  • Life insurance
  • Professional liability reimbursement
  • Reimbursement for training expenses while on the job
  • 50% tax-exempt salary
  • 401(k) plan

On top of this, travel RNs earn a competitive salary that is usually higher than most permanently staffed nurses, since their skills are in such great demand. Travel nurses are also typically reimbursed by their recruiting company for expenses related to licensing, credentialing and continuing education while on the job.

Be sure to ask your recruiter what your specific package will include.
